James McCaffertyJames McCafferty, Chief Flying Instructor (CFI) of Microflights, used to be Deputy Head of Holne Chase Combined School in Milton Keynes. He switched careers in 1990, joining the Department of the Environment in Westminster, and in 1997 he left the civil service to work for himself.

James caught the aviation “bug” in his teens, training on a Cessna 150 (before the money ran out) and got his A and B Gliding Certificates with the ATC. He has been flying weight-shift microlights since 1996 and holds flying instructor and flight examiner ratings from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). When not flying microlights, he takes his collection of historical musical instruments around schools, and is a partner in a business development consultancy.

Gareth Logan Gareth Logan, like James, started off flying gliders as an ATC cadet and got hooked, later gliding out of Nympsfield and Blackpool. Like most of us, he had to take a break for a few years because of work and family commitments, but during that time he kept his interest in aviation by building and flying radio-controlled scale gliders. He discovered the joy of microlighting with a trial flight, promptly started his training with James at Microflights and gained his NPPL(M) in 2006.

Gareth became a fully qualified Flying Instructor (FI) in 2013, and works as Microflights’ second instructor, where his background in business management and driving instruction is being put to good use!

Paul Fessi Paul Fessi got airborne in his teens flying hang gliders and was totally hooked on flying from then onwards. He has been flying flexwing (weight-shift) microlights since 1991 and holds an Assistant Flying Instructor (AFI) rating from the CAA. With a background in engineering, a profession in which he holds a Masters Degree, Paul is also a BMAA Inspector and flexwing check pilot. When not flying microlights, Paul enjoys white water kayaking and mountaineering, and loves mountain flying in G-FESS, his distinctive metallic blue Quantum 912, and playing in the French Alps with his wife, family and friends. He’s already flown over Mount Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe.
Jim Cannon Jim Cannon has been flying since 2004, when he discovered the fun which comes with flexwing microlights. He gained his licence a year later and qualified as an Assistant Flying Instructor in 2012. Married and with two grown-up children, he is now semi-retired from his job as a logistics planner, which allows him to spend more time teaching people to fly in his Quantum 912, rather than commuting by Wizzair or Easyjet.
